Become a Member
Becoming a member of a neighbourhood house can bring many benefits, enriching one’s life in various ways. These community hubs, also known as neighbourhood centres, community centres, or neighbourhood houses, serve as essential resources, providing a wide range of services and programs tailored to residents’ needs. Whether seeking social connections, educational opportunities, or ways to contribute to your community, a neighbourhood house can offer numerous benefits.
Social Connection and Support
One of the most significant benefits of joining a Nagambie Lakes Community House is the opportunity to make social connections. In our increasingly digital world, face-to-face interactions are more important than ever. ‘The House’ provides a welcoming environment where people of all ages can unite, fostering community and belonging. Through various clubs, activities, and events, members can form new friendships, combatting the feelings of isolation that are all too common in modern society.
This connection can be particularly valuable for seniors. We offer programs for older adults, including the Welcome Group and educational workshops. These programs provide socialisation opportunities and help seniors stay active and engaged, promoting overall well-being.
Educational Opportunities
The House hosts various educational programs to enhance community members’ skills and knowledge. These can range from certificate courses such as first aid or responsible serving of alcohol to computer literacy workshops or art and cooking courses. These programs can be a gateway to new hobbies, career advancement, or adult personal development. We also offer two playgroups that support individual growth for preschool children.
Additionally, we provide resources and support for newcomers to the community and a community pantry for those experiencing food insecurity.
Health and Wellness
Another key benefit of joining us is access to health and wellness programs. We hold immunisation days, AA meetings, NDIS, and carer support, which can help individuals lead healthier lives physically and mentally.
Volunteering and Civic Engagement
Neighbourhood houses provide numerous volunteering opportunities for those who want to give back to their community. Volunteering can be a rewarding experience, allowing individuals to contribute their time and skills to causes they care about. It also promotes a sense of civic engagement and responsibility. Volunteering helps individuals connect with their community, understand local issues, and work towards positive change. This involvement can lead to a more lively and resilient community where residents are actively involved in shaping their shared future.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
Our aim is to be inclusive and accessible to all community members. Therefore, our annual membership fee is only $10, and it’s just an additional $2 for each session you attend. This pricing structure ensures that financial constraints do not hinder anyone from participating. This inclusivity fosters a fair community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Our establishment is equipped with facilities to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities. This dedication to inclusivity guarantees that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can take advantage of the resources and support available.
