The Nagambie Movember initiative, led by Reg Dickinson, has already gained popularity among locals. Over the past two years, men have grown moustaches and beards to raise funds for ‘Movember’ in November. At the end of the month, they shave them off to raise awareness and funds for men’s health.
About three and a half years ago, a group of local men were enjoying their coffee after a game of bowls when they stumbled upon the idea of starting a charity. They realised Movember’s potential as a good cause. However, they were concerned that the money raised would not stay in their community. As a result, they decided to form Go Men, a local charity that would ensure that the funds raised would benefit the community directly.
We thought that if we were to jump on board, we would prefer to see the money raised stay in Nagambie. And so ‘Go Men’ was born. We meet informally; there is no structure or committee in place; we simply hold a few events in November, which has traditionally now become men’s health month.Reg Dickensen
The money raised has been allocated to Nagambie Healthcare for the last three years. As of 2020, we are not too far off the $10,000 mark. We have been well supported from the outset by Paul and Amelia from the Royal Mail Hotel and the generosity of mostly Nagambie people.
We would welcome any others who wish to become part of this group. To find out more, give Reg Dickinson a call.
